Originally created by Khalid Bahey at 2bits, the Nagios module for Drupal integrates Nagios, the defacto open source standard for infrastructure monitoring systems, with Drupal, providing custom checks for a range of critical operations (such as cron runs, Drupal updates, file permissions, etc.) and hooks allowing other developers to easily develop their own Drupal-specific Nagios checks. Continuing Khalid's initial work, Code Enigma has maintained the Nagios module since Drupal 7, adding drush commands for NRPE (a more secure, server-level agent for communicating with Nagios), accepting and applying patches from the community and making the update check logic smarter.
