Junior web designer

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding design team and learn the in-demand skills of screen design, interface design, and front-end development.

About us

Code Enigma is a full service web agency that specialises in building Enterprise websites using the Open Source Drupal content management system. We also provide hosting and support services for clients with a need for high-performance, high-security hosting. We work as a distributed team with most members of staff working from home. Our team of 16 people is based in the UK, France, Spain, Australia, and Argentina. Our clients include the Economist, Le Figaro, Wellcome Trust, National Science Learning Centre, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and the Greater London Authority.

About the job

Working under the direction of our head of design, you will provide a range of design services to our clients and our development team. On the client side you’ll apply design thinking to their online communication requirements; on the developer side you’ll provide perfect markup for responsive web applications. In other words, you’ll be involved in delivering a full range of front-end services: visual communication, user experience design, and front-end prototyping. Most of the time you will work in our Bradford office alongside our head of design. Some of the time you’ll work from home, and occasionally you’ll need to work at clients’ premises. More often than not, that will be in London, but may be in other locations in Europe.

About you

You need to be passionate about the role of design in online communication. You also need to be fascinated by web technologies and constantly ready to learn new stuff. If you’ve already got experience that demonstrates these characteristics that’s great, but we’re also happy to talk to people at the start of a career in front-end design who can demonstrate their passion and learning ability in other ways.

The pay

Pay will depend on your experience. If you are just starting out we’ll class you as a trainee and pay £16,000. If you’re an experienced designer we’ll pay up to £32,000. In addtion, we pay a London weighting. We also provide computer equipment, a training fund, and time off for personal development.

The process

All we need is a short video where you explain why you want to work with us and what you're bringing. You'll see a link on the application page to your Drupal profile but that's not necessary for this post. Once you've provided a video we'll contact you to set up a meeting. Good luck! Junior Drupal developer

This is an exciting opportunity to join our highly-experienced development team and learn how to develop enterprise websites in Drupal.

About us

Code Enigma is a full service web agency that specialises in building Enterprise websites using the Open Source Drupal content management system. As a full service agency we provide consultancy, content strategy, and design services in addition to development. We also provide hosting and support services for clients with a need for high-performance, high-security hosting. We work as a distributed team with most members of staff working from home. Our team of 16 people is based in the UK, France, Spain, Australia, and Argentina. Our clients include the Economist, Le Figaro, Wellcome Trust, National Science Learning Centre, Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, and the Greater London Authority.

About the job

Working mostly from home or a local workspace, you’ll work as part of a team led by senior Drupal developers that have in-depth knowledge of Drupal and have also been regular contributors to the Drupal project over many years. You’ll learn best practice for professional development such as version control, multi-stage deployment, and zero-touch deployment techniques. As Code Enigma has its own design section you’ll also be exposed to design and ux principles, and how those can be applied using the Drupal CMS. In addition to Drupal we work in a number of other application such as Symfony and pure Javascript. From time to time you may also be required to work onsite with clients so you will need to be willing to travel and live away from home for short periods.

About you

Ideally you will already be familiar with Drupal and have demonstrated your commitment by getting involved with the Drupal community. If you don’t actually have professional Drupal experience you will need to demonstrate skills and experience in related technologies such as PHP. You must also be passionate about learning code and becoming the best. If you have relevant education qualifications that will be useful. You will need to be able to work from home, which doesn’t suit everyone, but also able to travel periodically.

The pay

Pay will depend on your experience. If you are just starting out we’ll class you as a trainee and pay £16,000. If you’re an experienced developer we pay up to £32,000. If you’re based in London we pay an extra weighting. We also provide computer equipment, a training fund, and time off for personal development.
